Updates on Bonnie & Co. from Phyllis at Sunflower Hill Rescue

This afternoon when I talked to Phyllis Allison at Sunflower Hill Rescue in Terrell, Texas, her time and attention were primarily fixed on keeping the animals watered and reasonably cool. With the temperature at 107⁰ F (Day 39 for temperatures over 100), that's pretty much a full-time occupation. Bless her heart for taking the time to chat and catch me up with some of our favorite critters rescued via Joe's Animal House Facebook page.

Bonnie, the big-eared, blue-eyed wonder dog that is heartworm positive is "just so cute". Although she was friendly with other dogs when she was at the shelter, she doesn't seem quite as disposed to such generosity of spirit now and is quite territorial of her own space. However, she adores humans. According to Phyllis, "She has a very sweet personality—especially if you have treats." Because of the stress of HW treatment, which would be exacerbated by the heat, Phyllis is delaying that until probably September or October. However, Bonnie is on preventative that will stabilize her HW+ condition, and possibly improve it.

Phyllis expressed regret that she has not sent thank you notes to everyone who has so generously donated to Sunflower Hill. I told her, "Phyllis, people are so grateful that you have rescued all these fur babies and understand that you're crazy-busy taking care of them." She said to please extend her thanks—"Everyone has been so gracious"—and to let you know that she is committed to taking care of Bonnie's HW treatment—it just has to wait for cooler weather.

Phyllis also asked me to update everyone on the cats she took in:  Fiona, Mindy, and Carjack. Fiona doesn't care much for other cats so has her own little area and seems quite happy with that. Mindy is "doing fine" and has adapted well. Carjack was initially scared and a hissy spitter. He has come out of that and been accepted by a group of kittens slightly older than he is, so seems to be finding his happy place.

When I heard that Phyllis had a few empty spots for dogs, I jumped at the opportunity and asked her if she would take Daisy, currently on Joe's urgent list. She said she would. Then I asked about Isis and Pharaoh, and she will probably take them too. Poor Phyllis—the woman is never going to get any rest.

Would you please be so kind as to donate what you can to this good lady and her rescue operations? (This is by my request, not Phyllis'.) Send checks to:

If you live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and have computer skills, Phyllis is in serious need of help creating a web site so her rescues can get more visibility and a better chance at finding their forever homes.

Thank you for any help you can offer.
